Introduction to Discontent and Search

Up to this point in my life, everything was going right. I had come to America. I was successful in business and was making good money. I had a wonderful wife, two beautiful children, and many friends. I was living the “dream.”

But then, my experience at the Kumbh Mela planted something in me—or perhaps awakened something in me. It was subtle at first, a tiny irritant, like a grain of sand in an oyster or a small piece of gravel in your shoe. Although it is tiny, that one particle affects the whole body. It causes a reaction and stops the whole journey until it is dealt with.

I had a small grain of discontent within me, and it started to grow, affecting my entire being. Looking back, I can see that discontent is essential to transformation. Only through discontent can the break happen, and only then can the search begin.
